Your First Chiropractic Visit
We request that you complete our contact form located in the New Patient Center. Once you return them to us, we will find an appointment for you at the next available time that suits your schedule. You will receive an invitation by email to join our online patient management system, OnPatient. F0llow the link to register as a new user, and enter the same information (email and cell phone number- NOT your Social Security Number, even though it asks!) you provided to us. Once you’ve verified your identity you may create a username and password. You will see your appointment for your first visit in your dashboard, with a flag to complete paperwork. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition.

Consultation & Examination
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. John Edwards to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for Dr. John Edwards to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
After your consultation, Dr. John Edwards will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes and flexibility. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
If you have previous x-rays, CT scans, or MRI’s, we encourage you to bring them to your first appointment. Depending on the findings of your examination, we may send you for X-rays as well. We partner with Advanced Radiology Imaging Associates (ARIA) a few blocks north of us because they’re close, professional, and most of our patients are able to walk-in that day. ARIA uploads the images to an online server that we have access to, then the films are read by both Dr. Edwards and a board-certified radiologist. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. John Edwards will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:
- How can you help me?
- How often do I need to come in?
- What will my treatment cost?
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and (if necessary) X-rays, Dr. John Edwards will discuss recommendations and notify you our office can help you or if your condition requires care with other providers. Our goal is to provide the best program for your needs.
The Chiropractic Adjustment
At the conclusion of this initial appointment, you can choose to experience your first adjustment. Our view is that the chiropractic adjustment is so important to your health that it is the only thing we do at Mama’s Chiropractic. There are other clinics who offer massage and physiotherapy, and there is absolutely a time and a place for those modalities to help soft tissue injuries heal. We will happily work with your other providers if those treatments are necessary. Also, you can expect that we will help you with exercise recommendations and adopting lifestyle changes you can do at home. But when our patients come into Mama’s Chiropractic Clinic, they know they will be checked for subluxations and adjusted.
As a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, the Fountainhead of the chiropractic profession, Dr. Edwards utilizes a technique skill set known as the Palmer Package. For those familiar with chiropractic, the primary techniques utilized at Mama’s Chiropractic also include Webster, Gonstead, Thompson, SOT, Logan, Toggle, and Applied Kinesiology. These are hands-on techniques that are easily adapted to the special needs of expecting mothers and children. Dr. Edwards utilizes hand-crafted pillows to hug an expecting mother’s tummy while she’s face down (these pillows are so comfortable, most patients threaten to steal them!) and a pediatric head piece to allow for gentle correction of an infant’s subluxations. The adjustment experience is interactive, so please ask if you have questions about the different styles of adjustments at anytime.
After your first visit, the doctor will email you a wellness program to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. We also encourage our patients to join the Pathways Connect SWFL Facebook group, where we discuss conscious parenting, natural lifestyle choices, and share information on creating healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The mission of Mama’s Chiropractic is to create healthier bodies, quicker minds, and more loving relationships. We are dedicated to providing our community the tools to help us all reach our wellness goals.
